Repeater duplicated when template is edited

I don't  have a full grasp of all the bug patterns (or it could be user error) but the repeater seems to be duplicated at when the title is updated with "Edit Repeat Template". I've tried ending the repeater for one of the duplicates, but this deletes both repeaters. I was able to resume a repeater somehow by updating the repeater title and/or updating the recurrence settings and the time. The daily notes were kept  intact and accessible via "View History." However, a recent attempt to resume a repeater was not successful with template history lost and repeater acting as a new repeater. The duplicate issue still continues. Is there a way to override this?
