    Update from the original reporter: the write latency described here has improved substantially. It went from 40-50s per change (20 Aug), to 15-20s on 1.74.1 (25 Aug), to "much much faster" after the following web performance release (29 Aug). Awaiting a firm number for where it settled.     Such changes now consistently take 40-50 seconds to reflect on the page.
