When creating or editing an event, we could pick the date, it would be nice if we can have the today button to bring us back to today/this week/month/year.

This applies to the week picker as well, not just days. The same picker is used when choosing a week, and the current week isn't marked either - so when rescheduling an overdue weekly task there's nothing showing you where 'now' is.
Worth covering both in one go: mark today when picking a day, and mark the current week when picking a week.

Yes, when selecting a date from the date picker I would love to easily select "Today" - at present I have to look up today's date elsewhere and then select it.
Similarly "This Week", "This Month", "This Year" would also benefit from being easily selected in the date picker.
Maybe also "Tomorrow", "Next Week" etc.
These would all make creating and dating a new entry much easier.
